| Full biography
Assemblymember Ted Lieu was elected to the 53rd Assembly
District in a Special Election in September 2005 to represent the
communities of El Segundo, Hermosa Beach, Lomita, Manhattan Beach,
Mar Vista, Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, Redondo Beach, Torrance,
Venice, Westchester and parts of West Los Angeles.
Lieu currently serves on the following standing committees: Banking
and Finance, Health, Natural Resources, and Water, Parks & Wildlife.
He was also appointed Chair of the Assembly's Select Committee on
Aerospace.
Prior his election to the State Assembly, Lieu had served on the
Torrance City Council, as well as the City's Environmental Quality
& Energy Conservation Commission. As both councilmember and
commissioner, he worked tirelessly on issues that he continues as
an Assemblymember - education, public safety, the environment and
transportation.
Dedicated to his country, Lieu currently holds the rank of Major
in the United States Air Force Reserves. He served on active duty
for four years as a member of the JAG Corps. During his tenure,
Lieu received numerous awards and medals for his service and dedication
to men and women in our Armed Forces, both abroad and locally.
Lieu graduated from Stanford University in 1991 earning a bachelor's
of science in computer science and a bachelor of arts in political
science. In 1994, he graduated with a juris doctorate with honors
from Georgetown University Law Center where he was Editor-in-Chief
of the Law Review.
Ted's wife Betty is a former Deputy Attorney General
under Bill Lockyer. Ted and Betty reside in the City of Torrance
with their two sons – Brennan and Austin.
