ALBERT Y. MURATSUCHI

Al Muratsuchi is a Trustee of the Torrance Unified School District Board of Education, elected in November 2005.  He also serves as a Deputy Attorney General with the California Department of Justice.

Prior to his election to the Torrance school board, Al served as the Chairman of the Torrance Planning Commission; Commissioner with the Torrance Environmental Quality and Energy Conservation Commission; director of the League of Women Voters of Torrance; and President of the Torrance Sister City Association.

Al began his active involvement in the Asian Pacific American community in the 1980’s as a Berkeley student activist and an intern with the Asian Law Caucus in Oakland.  Since then, Al has served as a Regional Director of the Japanese American Citizens League and a director of the Asian Pacific American Democratic Club in Los Angeles.  In 1991, Al published an article on voter registration in Asian and Pacific Islander communities in Asian American Policy Review, a joint publication of Harvard University and the University of California at Berkeley.  Currently, Al serves on the Board of Directors of the Little Tokyo Service Center.

Al earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1988 and a Juris Doctor degree from UCLA in 1994.  He is also a graduate of the Coro Foundation Public Affairs Fellows Program in 1990.
