SESSION #7: LA MAYOR

Los Angeles, CA -- On Wednesday, April 13, CAUSE held the seventh session of the 2022 CAUSE Leadership Institute virtually on Zoom.

CLI Fellows explored the Impact of the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office in advance of the 2022 Election with the primary upcoming on June 7th.

Nonprofit leader Chanchanit Martorell, Executive Director of the Thai Community Development Center, and current LA Mayor’s Office of Economic Development Director  Leila Lee, Director of Small Business and Entrepreneurship both shared their respective relationships with the Office, the impact of the Office on the AAPI community from their perspectives, and their recommendations for both voters and mayoral candidates.

Fellows viewed the CAUSE Exclusive 2022: Los Angeles Mayor Candidate sneak peek. The exclusive unveiled CAUSE’s Mayoral Interview Series-- an informational webpage for voters to reference including voter registration information, key dates, and candidate information from video interviews on top issues to campaign websites. Fellows learned more about LA Mayor candidates and were able to view the Series early, which allowed them to alert and inform their network in the city of Los Angeles.

QUOTES:

“[I enjoyed] Hearing from the two awesome Asian American womens' experiences in politics and what drives them.”

“It will be important for the AAPI community to get to know the upcoming LA mayor candidates to see if they are the right person who will address the needs of the AAPI community. It is also important to remind candidates that the AAPI community is very large and diverse and explain why we have different needs.”
