forum questions

The following questions were presented by AANHPI community leaders and partner organizations during the 2026 AANHPI California Gubernatorial Forum.

Q1: Environment & Climate Resilience

What mechanisms would you put in place to ensure that Pacific Islander, Indigenous, and other frontline communities most impacted by environmental decisions have direct authority in shaping climate resilience strategies, equitable access to green jobs, training programs, and economic opportunities created by this transition, and safeguards to prevent displacement from affected industries?

Q2: Voting Rights & Language Access

How would you ensure that existing voting systems, including vote by mail and vote centers, are not only maintained but effectively implemented, particularly for communities that rely on language access and in-person support?

Q3: Small Business

From a statewide leadership perspective, how would you ensure accountability across the healthcare system, including public programs, providers, and insurers, so that care remains accessible, costs are manageable, and families are not pushed into debt while trying to stay healthy?

Q4: Affordability & Economy

How would you ensure that California’s systems are responsive to the realities of immigrant and migrant communities, so that people are able to navigate systems effectively and are not left out due to complexity, language barriers, or gaps in implementation?

Q6: Serving Immigrant Communities

How would you ensure that California’s systems are responsive to the realities of immigrant and migrant communities, so that people are able to navigate systems effectively and are not left out due to complexity, language barriers, or gaps in implementation?

Q7: Representation & Inclusive Governance

How would you ensure that Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities are meaningfully included in decision-making roles, including appointments to boards and commissions and leadership within state agencies, so that governance reflects the full diversity of California, including immigrant, working class, and Pacific Islander communities that are often underrepresented?

Q8: Community Commitment & Accountability

how will you commit to continuing to engage with our communities to seek our input, and to incorporating these priorities into your approach to governing California, including how policies are developed and implemented?
