CAUSE identifies and coordinates office placements for CLA Interns across government public service offices at the California federal, state, county, and city levels. The application and pairing processes occur simultaneously. Drawing on over 25 years of relationships with supervisors across these offices, CAUSE carefully matches interns with host offices based on best fit. Placement decisions consider interns’ interests and motivations, background, insights from interviews, and opportunities for professional growth.
-
CLA seeks interns who are curious, motivated, and eager to grow through civic engagement. We value individuals who bring their full selves, their interests, experiences, and questions, into the program and are excited to learn alongside CAUSE and their host offices.
-
Each week of the CLA program is divided into two parts. For two days, interns participate in civic leadership training and workshops led by CAUSE. This includes building professional development skills, deepening understanding of civic engagement, and engaging in discussions on current issues impacting the API community. For the remaining three days, interns are placed in their respective government host offices at the federal, state, or local level, gaining hands-on professional experience in public service.
