Together We Vote is a collaborative, multi-day civic experience during California’s 10-day early voting period. Rooted in community and culture, it brings together local partners, artists, small businesses, and civic leaders to empower voters in Los Angeles County’s historic Asian and Pacific Islander (API) neighborhoods.

Our Asian American Voter Access Report, based on more than 1,000 multilingual surveys across Los Angeles County, showed that people enjoy voting most when it feels like a shared experience. That finding shapes our approach: voting should be more than a task; it should be a moment of community, joy, and belonging.

When people vote together, they create lasting positive memories and deepen their connection to each other and to the democratic process. Voting becomes not just about civic duty, but about shaping the neighborhoods, schools, and communities we share.

Together We Vote turns Get Out the Vote (GOTV) into a celebration of community by bringing civic engagement to life through cultural events, art, food, and storytelling that make participation meaningful and fun.

In past elections, CAUSE partnered with the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk and community-based organizations to reach voters through youth-led digital outreach, in-language mailers for older adults, and events in trusted spaces. By centering low-propensity voters from ethnic neighborhoods, low-income communities, and limited English proficient households, Together We Vote makes participation welcoming and empowering for everyone.

“Together” takes many forms. Whether you join us at a community event, drop your ballot in a mailbox or ballot box, or vote early at a local Vote Center, you are part of this shared experience. Every act of voting connects us and strengthens our collective voice. In that spirit, we continue building spaces where culture, community, and civic engagement come together.

This election season, Together We Vote is bringing that spirit to life once again, inviting our community to gather, celebrate, and shape the future together.

VOTE AT HAUNTED LITTLE TOKYO!

CAUSE, in partnership with the Little Tokyo Ghost Club, presents to you The 9th Haunted Little Tokyo Block Party, an outdoor Halloween event held in Little Tokyo in collaboration with local businesses.

Since 2021, CAUSE has organized the Haunted Costume Contest and booths focused on voter education and engagement with over 4000+ attendees. Our Annual Costume Contest, in partnership with Asian American Media Alliance, brings together some of the most creative and competitive costume fans. Attendees get to cast their popular vote for the winner, making it a fun reminder of the power of voting—and that your voice matters, especially in local elections.

Last year, CAUSE partnered with the LA County Registrar-Recorder/County-Clerk (RR/CC) to bring an official Mobile Vote Center to the party. We broke the county’s record for ballots casted at a mobile vote center and stayed open until 10 PM.

This year, LA County RR/CC returned with an official ballot drop-off box for the special election. Haunted brings together multiple generations to a fun, welcoming space where community and civic engagement meet.

VOTER RESOURCES SCAVENGER HUNT

CAUSE’S first-ever 2024 Together We Vote Fest brought together diverse Asian Pacific Islander (API) communities through a multi-day celebration during the 10 days of early voting leading up to Election Day. This historic fest blended vibrant cultural festivities with meaningful civic engagement, demonstrating the powerful ways communities can unite to learn, connect, and take action.

Produced and organized by CAUSE in collaboration with 20 organizations and leaders, the festival directly engaged with over 5,000 people and reached over 400 million through digital outreach via press media and various digital platforms. Across historic API neighborhoods in Los Angeles County, attendees enjoyed music, food, family-friendly activities, and essential voter resources. This fest energized neighborhoods across Los Angeles County and highlighted the power of community, culture, and civic action.

These CAUSE-led mobile vote center activations resulted in historic in-person voter turnout at Little Tokyo’s Haunted Little Tokyo Block Party, North Hollywood’s Wat Thai Los Angeles Temple, and Koreatown’s Korean American Federation of Los Angeles.

HISTORIC FIRSTs

First-Ever Vote Center at the Haunted Little Tokyo Block Party

The Haunted Little Tokyo Block Party, an annual Halloween event produced by CAUSE and Little Tokyo organizations and small businesses, draws over 4,000 attendees.

As the signature kick-off to Together We Vote Fest, Haunted Little Tokyo 2024 introduced the first-ever Mobile Vote Center in partnership with Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Office. Thanks to positive feedback, the Vote Center stayed open until 10pm, offering later hours to make voting more accessible, especially for younger voters who typically have lower turnout.

Special guests included California State Senator Ben Allen (SD-24) and Dean Logan, Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk.

First-Ever Vote Center at the Bangladeshi Community Development Center

CAUSE supported South Asian Network (SAN) in hosting the first-ever Vote Center at their Bangladeshi Community Development Center, just a little over a year after its opening. The center attracted 250+ attendees and, located in a strip mall serving an intersection of South Asian, Filipino, and Korean communities, offered cultural treats and voter resources, fostering interaction between diverse API groups.

First-Ever Jeepney SHUTTLE to a Vote Center

Together We Vote Fest guests rode an authentic 1944 Sarao Motors Jeepney, restored and cared for by Pilipino Workers Center (PWC), between The Oinkster and the Eagle Rock Branch Library Vote Center. The Jeepney shuttle service to and from the vote center pays homage to the historically cultural use of Jeepneys as public transportation in the Philippines. This was also the first time the Jeepney graced the streets of Eagle Rock, a neighborhood with a large Filipino population. Guests enjoyed karaoke on the Jeepney, engaged with PWC and CAUSE staff about voter resources, sampled banana ketchup, and grooved to music by DJ Key Kool of the Visionaries.

“It gave [us] memories from the Philippines. [It’s the] same thing like in the Philippines. They’ll get you with jeepney to go to the voting station.”
— Darius De La Rosa (Attendee)
