Los Angeles, CA – The Center for Asian Americans United for Self Empowerment (CAUSE), in conjunction with local community organizations representing the diverse Asian Pacific American (APA) communities, will host the “Make Us Count” Press Conference featuring California Secretary of State, Alex Padilla at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 10:00AM.

The “Make Us Count” Press Conference will focus on the new voting model, emphasize the importance of voting in the upcoming elections, and discuss the availability of in-language ballots to encourage voter participation in the APA community. Secretary Padilla will also address the importance of ensuring a fair and accurate census count. In addition, best practices for improving voter participation, along with how the public and non-profit sectors can work together to increase voter turnout in the APA community will be discussed by community leaders.

“Under the leadership of Secretary Alex Padilla, voting has never been easier,” said Charlie Woo, CAUSE Board Chair.  “With the availability of pan-Asian language ballots, mail-in ballots, and now early voting vote centers in their communities, it is vital that Asian Americans take advantage of this opportunity to make their voices heard.”

“We are transforming how Californians vote,” said Secretary of State Alex Padilla. “By opening access to the polls and removing barriers. That’s why I am excited that LA County and Orange County have implemented the Voter’s Choice Act, which will offer an even more convenient option for California voters to cast their ballot.”

Secretary Padilla went on to state, “Everyone of us has the ability and responsibility to work together to increase voter turnout, ensure that our civic rights and voting rights are upheld and that we have a fair and accurate Census 2020.”

“This election represents a critical opportunity for all California voters, but especially for our Asian Pacific communities to have our voices heard by our state and national leaders,” said Tami Bui, CAUSE Board Member and Associate VP, Government & Community Relations at California State University, Fullerton. “It is the leadership of our Secretary of State, Alex Padilla, non-profits like CAUSE, and our partners in the public sector to come together in order to educate voters, increase voter turnout, and ultimately empower our communities.”
